What is the difference between Facebook Marketplace and DiskarteHub?
Facebook Marketplace is primarily a classified marketplace for buying and selling items. DiskarteHub is being built as a service marketplace connecting people who need work done with people who have skills to offer.
| Facebook Marketplace | DiskarteHub | |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Buy/sell products and listings | Find and offer services |
| Typical transaction | “I’m selling this item” | “I need someone to do this job” |
| Service discovery | Possible, but not the main workflow | Core purpose |
| Customer role | Buyer | Customer requesting a service |
| Provider role | Seller/listing owner | Service Provider |
| Service request | Mostly messages between users | Structured Service Request |
| Scheduling | Usually arranged manually in chat | Booking date/time/location |
| Request status | No dedicated service workflow | Pending → Accepted/Rejected → Completed |
| Provider management | General seller listings | My Services + Service Requests |
| Customer management | General Marketplace/chat | My Bookings |
| Messaging | Messenger | DiskarteHub conversation tied to the service/request |
| Notifications | General Marketplace notifications | Service-specific notifications |
| Local skills | Not its main focus | Central to DiskarteHub |
| Becoming a provider | Anyone can create a listing | Customer can activate Provider access with a minimal activation fee |
The biggest difference
Facebook Marketplace starts with: “What are you selling?”
DiskarteHub starts with: “What do you need?”
That distinction is important. Someone might open Facebook Marketplace looking for a second-hand refrigerator. In DiskarteHub, they might open the app because their refrigerator is broken and they need someone to repair it.
Likewise:
Marketplace:
Seller → Product → Buyer
DiskarteHub:
Customer → Service Request → Provider → Service Completed
DiskarteHub also has an interesting account model
You don't need separate customer and provider accounts. Everyone starts as a Customer.
If Juan needs an electrician today, he can use DiskarteHub as a customer. If Juan also knows how to repair computers, he can later activate his Provider access, pay the minimal activation fee, list “Computer Repair,” and receive Service Requests.
So the same person can Hanap when they need help and Kita when they have a skill to offer.
That gives our tagline a strong product meaning:
- Hanap. Find someone who can help.
- Gawa. Get the work done—or offer the work you can do.
- Kita. Create an earning opportunity.
The closer comparisons for DiskarteHub are therefore not really Facebook Marketplace alone. Conceptually, it's closer to a local services marketplace, but with a Filipino/community-oriented model and our particular Customer → Provider activation system.
DiskarteHub — Hanap. Gawa. Kita.
